I wandered.
I wrote a book.
Then it all got a bit out of hand…
It all started with Half the Path, about my attempt to walk all 630 miles of the
South West Coast Path in 21-days. Then I covered the experience of running a bunch of
ultramarathons,
and more recently, I've got back to multi-day hikes with a walk around the Isle of Wight..
Take a look at each book below - some have 'Explore' buttons with photos, maps and stats which
dig deeper into the journey and are a great
addition to the book.

100km of Ridges, Cliffs and Pure Purbeck Spirit
The dead own these hills. From fifty-four headless Vikings dumped in a Roman
quarry to five millennia of barrow burials, the Dorset landscape is a massive graveyard.
The Land of Stones and Bones follows a 102km race through darkness and light. It's a
brutal
traverse over the Ridgeway, the Coast Path, the ruins of Corfe Castle, and the sting-in-the-tail
steps at Emmet's Hill.
After a year of failure and two DNFs, this was more than my first 100k; it was a reckoning. In a
land that has held the dead for eons, one more runner was never going to trouble it.
45 Miles of Mud, Snow, Floods and Frozen Toes!
Could you conquer the Green Man?
Embark on the Green Man Ultra, an unforgettable 45-mile race around Bristol's Community Forest
Path. This year marks my fifth attempt at conquering this gruelling course, although I almost
didn't make it to the start line! While the ever-present mud is a familiar adversary, this time
I faced the added challenges of snow and a river so high I almost had to swim! The cold seeped
into my bones, turning every step into a test of endurance and willpower.
The five year journey to the end of a 100-mile foot race.
One hundred miles. That's all.
The MudCrew Arc of Attrition is a foot race that gets under your skin. At least it did for serial
Did-Not-Finisher, Richard Meston. One hundred miles of Cornish Coast Path from Coverack on the
south coast, past the Lizard, Penzance, Land's End, Cape Cornwall and onto the north coast at
Pendeen, on to St Ives, Godrevy and Portreath finishing in Porthtowan.
Minehead to Penzance in 9 days. Via the pub.
A lifelong fascination with the South West Coast Path meant it was the destiny of world
unrenowned ultra distance competitor Richard Meston to one day make the long and dangerous
pilgrimage to Minehead on the British railway network and begin an adventure that would change
his life…

Walking the Isle of Wight Coastal Path: Landslips, Lighthouses, Esplanades,
Two Feet and One Tent.
"Why don't you go for a walk?"
If I'm lacing up my shoes, I might as well throw on a rucksack. And if there's room, I might as
well add a tent...

The Jurassic Coast? Completed it, mate.
The Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site stretches from Old Harry Rocks in Dorset to Orcombe Point
in Devon, uniquely capturing 185 million years of the earth's history. Taking advantage of the
beautiful coastline, the South West Coast Path starts just a few miles from Old Harry Rocks and
runs the entire length of the Jurassic Coast. It's a tough old stretch, with some brutal hills
dotted around…
The seed was sown 14 years ago… now it’s time to run 84 miles across 185
million years of coast line.
What do you get if you take three tough coastal marathons and stick them together?
The Oner. That's what you get.
Starting at Shell Bay, just across the water from the iconic Sandbanks Beach, the race takes in
84 brutal miles along the UNESCO World Heritage site, the Jurassic Coast. Not a bad place for a
run… if you ignore the 12,000ft of climbing and descending!

Hartland Quay to Minehead. One hundred and ten miles, two feet, one
path.
Hartland Quay, a 16th century harbour, and site of many a shipwreck on treacherous rocks snaking
out under the waves of the Atlantic. It also happens to be exactly one hundred and ten miles
from Minehead on the South West Coast Path. Imagine being silly enough to race that all in one
go…

Sometimes, it just doesn't go to plan.
The Jurassic Extinction - 120 miles, on foot, from Poole to Exmouth, via Portland.
In 2023, I tackled this beast of a race, somewhat underestimating the UK summer's ability to turn
me into a puddle of sweat, but nevertheless making it to Exmouth, but skipping the Portland
loop.
Determined to conquer the full course, I returned to the start line in June 2024, ready to face
my nemesis. Armed with more snacks than a convenience store and a playlist full of enough shouty
metalcore to power me through the night, I was confident.
But as the miles ticked by, the path had other plans.
I had a plan, and it was a good one. After a disappointing DNF, all I had to do was ignore the
clock and relax along the wild coastline from Hartland Quay to Minehead.
What could be easier than that?
Join me for a raw, honest and moderately amusing account of taking on one of England's toughest
ultras with a simple, fool-proof strategy.
It was supposed to be easy, but it's easy to forget that the finish line of an ultramarathon is
never guaranteed.
