Beaten by Dinosaurs
Sometimes, it just doesn't go to plan.
The Jurassic Extinction - 120 miles, on foot, from Poole to Exmouth, via Portland.
In 2023, I tackled this beast of a race, somewhat underestimating the UK summer's ability to turn me into a puddle of sweat, but nevertheless making it to Exmouth, but skipping the Portland loop.
Determined to conquer the full course, I returned to the start line in June 2024, ready to face my nemesis. Armed with more snacks than a convenience store and a playlist full of enough shouty metalcore to power me through the night, I was confident.
But as the miles ticked by, the path had other plans.

I think it's great to write about not finishing a race, as it helps us mere mortals accept that sometimes it's just not your day and there is always a next time (hopefully!)
